1. The Native Americans were well known for the bead loom. They made the looms using a mathematical system to create diverse and complex designs.
2. One key concept we will be using to complete this project is symmetry. The looms have a very distinct way of making them. There are many types of symmetry used in completing a bead loom. Such as four-fold symmetry.
3. The type of symmetry being displayed is Four-fold symmetry.
4. In the four images if we ignore the designs and colors they are all four-fold symmetry.
5. The four images are Embroidery, Plains Indians, Shoshone Beadwork, Pawhee Buffalo Hide Drum, and Navajo Rug
6. Reflection symmetry is when the lift side is the exact mirror image of the right side. It can also be when the bottom is the exact mirror image of the top part.
7. Base four counting is used very commonly for example tee pees are made using base four counting.
8. Four fold symmetry three was used as a healing process.Powder would be put onto the painting and when the painting would be brushed away so would the illness.
9. Four fold symmetry four is used to create Yupik Parka it is a kind of jacket that the natives wear. They use four fold symmetry four because the left and right sides need to be identical.
10. An example of four fold symmetry five would be the bead loom. In the past they would use the looms as belts.
11.In 1794 bead work was created before Europeans arrived.
12. Bead work is used to decorate object from drums to clothes to jewelry.
